Aigle-Martigny 2020, home of cycling
The 2020 Championships will mark the 12th edition of the event in Switzerland since the creation of the UCI Road World in 1921, and the first to be hosted in Vaud and Valais. We want this unique competition to reflect us, with a mix of technical expertise, precision and human warmth.
To organize such an event is a challenge. It is also the recognition of our know-how in the hosting and organisation of top-level cycling races. The best examples being the 2009 and 2016 stages of the Tour de France, the 2016 National Championships and many stages of the Tour de Romandie and Tour de Suisse.
Following the withdrawal of two different host cities, we built our project in record time, hence gaining the trust of the UCI. We are now fighting in an exciting time trial, just like the riders will during the competition.
The 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle and Martigny will be spectacular. The parcours will lead riders and fans alike along beautiful routes that will showcase the rich culture of our region. The main difficulty on the road race circuit is expected to be the climb up the Petite Forclaz, where splits will no doubt emerge, hence giving the race an extra touch of soul.
